History and context

Roberto Burle Marx and his brother acquired the property in 1949. The landscape designer lived there from 1973 to 1994 and donated the estate to the Federal Government in 1985. Today it is managed by IPHAN. Since 2021, it has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as a Cultural Landscape.
