It grew from gatherings of Northeastern migrants arriving in Rio and developed into a major centre of popular culture.

Families can try food, listen to music, buy souvenirs and discover cultural expressions from Northeastern Brazil.

Almost 700 stalls and spaces devoted to food, crafts, regional products and Northeastern Brazilian culture, plus music such as forró, xote, baião and other rhythms. Weekends and events usually bring the most festive atmosphere.
🎒 Before you go
Check the programme before going, because opening times, shows and admission vary by day and event. With children, I prefer daytime or early evening. Ask about prices and portion sizes before ordering: many dishes are meant to be shared.
🧭 How I would do it
My plan: arrive hungry, explore the aisles first, take your time choosing where to eat, and leave time for crafts and music. You can combine it with Quinta da Boa Vista/BioParque during a day in São Cristóvão.
