Parque Lage

Nature at the foot of Christ the Redeemer

Parque Lage offers gardens, paths, caves, bridges, wooded areas and views of Christ the Redeemer.

History and context

Before you go, I want to tell you why it is worth it

The former estate was transformed during the 20th century, and its mansion became home to the Escola de Artes Visuais.

The experience

What you will experience here

Even if the mansion is closed or access is restricted, the gardens and green spaces still offer a pleasant outing.

👀 What you will find

Gardens, trails, Atlantic Forest, historic architecture and views towards Corcovado.

❤️ Ideal for

Families who enjoy nature, gardens and heritage without an overly long outing.

🗺️ Combine it with

Jardim Botânico and Lagoa.

✨ Do not leave without...

Historic gardens, Atlantic Forest, trails and the surroundings of the mansion housing the Escola de Artes Visuais. The mansion may currently be closed for restoration, making the outdoor park the main attraction.

🎒 Before you go

Do not plan your visit solely around entering the mansion's courtyard. Check its status before going. After rain, some green areas may be wet or slippery.

🧭 How I would do it

My plan: a relaxed morning stroll, then continue to Jardim Botânico or Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

⚠️ Important information

The mansion and its famous pool are closed or have restricted access due to construction work. The gardens remain open.

📍 Address

Rua Jardim Botânico, 414 — Jardim Botânico.

🕐 Opening hours

The gardens are open daily during the park's official opening hours.

🎟️ Prices

Free access to outdoor areas.

👨‍👩‍👧 Recommended age

Suitable for all ages, with supervision near lakes, caves and paths.

⏱️ Duration

Between 1 and 2 hours.

📅 Booking

The gardens usually do not require a booking.

♿ Accessibility

Some areas have stones, uneven ground and natural paths.

🚇 How to get there

Take a bus or a ride-hailing service.
💡

Ernestinho’s tip

Come for the gardens and nature, not exclusively for a photo of the pool. Check the mansion's status before going.

⭐ Highlights

The gardens surrounded by Floresta da Tijuca and the view of Christ the Redeemer.
