Many visitors are granted up to 90 days, but the permitted stay and the possibility of an extension depend on nationality and the applicable immigration rules. Do not assume everyone automatically receives 90 + 90 days.
01how long can I stay?
In the most common tourist regime, stays of up to 90 days are authorized. Some nationalities may extend the visit up to a maximum of 180 days within the corresponding immigration period; others have different limits or do not allow extensions due to reciprocity.
02first confirm your regime
Check the General Visa Regime table and the date recorded on entry. The validity of a passport or visa is not the same as the number of days you are authorized to stay.
03when to request an extension
The request must be submitted before the current authorized stay expires. The Federal Police reviews the application and may approve or deny it; submitting a request does not guarantee approval.
04Commonly required documents
Valid travel document; entry/exit record or proof; application form; proof of fee payment; and any additional document requested by the officer.
05financial means and departure planning
You may be asked for proof of accommodation, sufficient funds for the additional days and a return or onward ticket. Carry statements, cards, bookings or other clear and consistent proof.
06how it is done
The payment slip is generated and paid, the form is completed, and then you must attend a Federal Police unit with immigration services for an interview and review. Check beforehand whether an appointment is required.
07if you stay beyond the authorized period
Overstaying may lead to a fine and notice to regularize your status or leave. Do not wait until the airport: an immigration fine cannot be resolved by improvising minutes before your flight.
