Hi! I'm Ernestinho Carioc-IA. I can help you find the Rio guide you need. Where should we start?
RIO GUIDE · Luggage storage
Where to store luggage in Rio de Janeiro
You hand back the room in the morning, but your trip is not over. Decide where to leave your luggage and how to collect it before heading out: that changes what you can do in Rio during those hours. This guide helps you choose between asking your accommodation and booking luggage storage.
Your last day, without carrying bags
- 01Checkout
- 02Store your luggage
- 03Enjoy your last day
- 04Collect your bags
- 05Airport / bus terminal / transfer
Allow time for collection and onward travel. Provider and transport deadlines take priority over any outing.
01
When bags get in the way
Early checkout and a late flight are the familiar example, but so are arrival before check-in, changing apartments, a layover, departure from Novo Rio or an activity before travelling. One bag for a few hours needs different planning from several bags while changing cities. Write down your starting point and next destination.
02
Ask your accommodation first
Ask whether bags can be left before check-in or after checkout, until what time and under which terms. Hotels may have a reception desk; apartments may require coordination with someone else. Do not assume storage exists, is free or allows collection whenever you like. Get a clear answer before planning your last day.

When dedicated luggage storage makes sense
Booked storage can help when your accommodation cannot keep bags, is out of the way or cannot allow collection at the required time. Compare the full cost and detour, rather than map distance alone. The right location fits your onward journey: leaving bags across town can eat up the time you wanted to save.
04
Using Bounce with a plan
Search by area or address, enter your date and luggage, then compare the locations Bounce shows for that search. Read the listing before booking: check the address, opening hours and terms. Keep your confirmation and follow its drop-off and collection instructions. Booking and payment are handled by the provider; Ernestinho does not operate the stores or replace provider support.
05
Your checklist before paying
Check the full address, access with bags, drop-off and collection hours, bag quantity and type, total price and change or cancellation terms. For unusual items, check acceptance at that location. Add collection time to your next journey. Being near a station does not mean being inside it or open all night.
06
Copacabana and Ipanema: choose for your route
If you will spend these hours in the South Zone, search around where you will actually be. Copacabana is long: an address near your hotel may be more practical than a better-known one. In Ipanema, consider your walk and onward departure. Check the provider’s current map; this guide does not promise a particular store for every date.

Centro and transit areas
Centro may suit a city walk, cultural visit or onward trip to SDU, but check the return with luggage and actual opening hours. If your plan ends elsewhere, do not choose solely for the first attraction. Ports, stations and terminals have their own access points: confirm the precise location rather than assuming a nearby service is inside the terminal.
08
GIG and SDU: plan from bag collection
Check your flight code: Galeão (GIG) and Santos Dumont (SDU) are different airports. Work backwards from bag collection, including waiting, loading, travel and airline procedures. SDU’s proximity to Centro is no reason to leave at the last moment. For GIG, plan the real journey from your final location with a buffer for traffic and airline guidance.

Novo Rio and the port: check the address
For a bus, confirm the terminal, operator and boarding point on your ticket. For a cruise, follow the cruise line’s instructions. Storage can help during waiting time but does not replace boarding deadlines. We do not confirm an in-terminal service at Novo Rio or the port: check each option and plan collection before travelling onward.

How to use those spare hours
Choose a proportionate plan: a coastal walk, coffee, lunch or a cultural visit near your chosen area. Do not add a distant attraction just because you are travelling light. Ticketed or timed visits need their own buffer. If you have booked a transfer, explain where you will collect bags and agree on the meeting point; do not assume an extra stop is included.

Rio + Búzios: plan the next stage
When changing cities, treat luggage as part of the transfer plan. Storing it in Rio only makes sense if you return within the agreed hours. For a Búzios stay, ask your accommodation about receiving bags. We do not claim Bounce operates at every Búzios location: this advice concerns an actual connection through Rio.

Care and common sense
Keep documents, money, required medication and your day essentials with you. Check accepted-item terms and retain receipts and contact instructions. Verify your bags before leaving after collection. Protection, liability and claims depend on provider terms; Ernestinho does not add a separate guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Can I leave bags at my accommodation?
Ask first: the service, hours and terms depend on your accommodation.
How much does Bounce cost?
Check the total for your date, location and bags before paying. We do not publish a fixed rate.
Are all locations open at night?
Do not assume so. Check the listing’s hours and whether your required collection time is possible.
Can I walk in without booking?
Follow the provider’s current process. For Bounce, search and confirm your booking before drop-off.
Does this include an airport transfer?
No. Luggage storage and transport are separate services; arrange each individually.
What if my flight changes or I am late?
Check your booking terms and contact the provider. Do not assume opening hours extend automatically.
