Hi! I'm Ernestinho Carioc-IA. I can help you find the Rio guide you need. Where should we start?
Secreto: first decide whether to go down
The pool photo leaves out the descent and the sea beyond it. I would not arrive expecting a guaranteed swim; I would be ready to assess conditions and choose another beach.
A rock formation between Macumba and Prainha
Secreto lies between Macumba and Prainha in the Recreio coastal corridor. A pool can form among rocks with little sand; this is not a long beach for setting up an umbrella. It suits a scenery visit for people with compatible mobility and preparation, not a Copacabana equivalent or children’s pool.

Low tide is not enough
Tides change the formation, but waves and storm swell can reach the rocks even when a tide table looks favourable. Check marine forecasts, alerts and visible conditions; an old photograph is not permission to descend. If waves cross the rocks, a storm is approaching or the path is wet, change plans. Water appearance is not a sanitary assessment, and another beach’s INEA point does not certify this pool.
Road arrival and a separate descent
The approach follows the coastal road towards Prainha, then a walk with steep sections. There is no adjacent metro or certified step-free route. Check permitted access and a safe drop-off point without stopping on a bend or obstructing the road. Arriving by car or app does not guarantee parking or a return driver.
Children, disability and pets: choosing another outing
The rocky descent is not my choice for babies, young children, pushchairs or limited mobility. Riotur warns about steep access. Handrails, accessible toilets and assistance are not certified here. Recreio offers an urban outing without requiring everyone to descend. 🐕 I would not bring a dog onto these rocks either: beach law does not resolve protected-area restrictions or the hazards of the path.

Do not plan around a kiosk, chair or shower
This guide cannot guarantee kiosks, toilets, vendors, chairs or umbrellas here. Bring water, a snack, grippy footwear and a bag to take rubbish away. Arrange a seated meal and rest in Recreio or the Prainha corridor, checking opening. The space among rocks is not a place for a full beach-stall day.
Enjoying the scenery without making it a sport
I would not use the pool for jumping, surf lessons, SUP or kayak launches. Those activities need another access point and professional assessment. For surfing, compare Macumba or Prainha with a school and same-day conditions. Do not climb an exposed rock for a photo or proceed because others are entering.
Daylight, without a sunset promise
Light changes with season and terrain, but the priority is daylight for the climb back and return. I would not arrive in darkness for sunrise or wait until night for a photo. Rain makes rocks harder to negotiate; heat calls for breaks and water. If you cannot assess the sea or confirm access, choose another beach and save this idea for a better occasion.
