Pico da Tijuca is among the main highlights of Transcarioca section 11, alongside Represa dos Ciganos and Pico da Tijuca Mirim.
The summit lies in the Forest sector of Tijuca National Park; plan from a confirmed entrance and do not combine it with a distant park sector in the same outing. The full route takes more time and energy than the final stretch to the summit. Bring water, a snack and an offline map; after rain, check official notices and avoid continuing if the trail is slippery. Plan to descend in daylight.
