A mountain range within an urban landscape
SMAC places the area north of Pedra de Guaratiba, among several roads in Guaratiba. Its guide describes a mix of coastal ecosystems and an important fragment of Atlantic Forest. The park protects landscape and biodiversity in an inhabited region, so I pay attention to signs and current rules.
What biodiversity tells us
The city guide cites about 140 bird species recorded in the area, including resident, visiting and migratory birds, and mentions native flora and fauna. This is a reference from institutional material, not a promise of sightings. If I want to identify a species, I use a reliable guide and note the date, place and conditions rather than relying on a blurry photo.
Access and hours
Before setting out, check recent park notices or contact the Secretariat. I do not follow informal paths, enter private property or treat a search map as a trail map. If opening is not confirmed, I change plans.
How to visit responsibly
If the administration confirms the hike is open, bring water, sun protection and appropriate footwear. Stay on authorized routes, do not feed wildlife or collect plants. I postpone the outing during heavy rain, storms or waterlogged conditions. I do not claim restrooms, parking or accessibility are available without current public confirmation.
What to combine it with
I can connect this guide with the Serra da Capoeira Grande APA and Pedra de Guaratiba context, but they do not share one entrance. Each area has its own category, rules and management. My mission is to observe how vegetation changes from hillside to coast, from authorized places.
