A house to explore
Rio Scenarium occupies a nineteenth-century house on Rua do Lavradio. It began as an antiques shop and production space; since 2001 it has operated as a concert venue. Furniture and objects are distributed across seven settings and three floors. I would not go just to sit before the stage: exploring the rooms is part of the visit.
Samba and feijoada
The programme includes samba de raiz, gafieira, chorinho and other Brazilian rhythms. The venue advertises a daytime Saturday feijoada separately from its night programme. Check the current listing for the time, menu, admission and whether your booking is for lunch or the evening show: they are different experiences.
What distinguishes the place
Its scale and staging make it more elaborate and tourist-oriented than a small Lapa bar. This works if you want comfort and a complete evening under one roof. For a spontaneous, intimate samba circle I would choose somewhere else. A table reservation alone does not guarantee event admission.
My Ernestinho tip
Do not confuse a reservation with a ticket: the venue says reserving does not guarantee event admission. I buy the official ticket first and allow time to explore the floors.
