Why I include it
It is on Av. Mem de Sá and retains the feel of a bar open to the street, more traditional than sophisticated. Current listings show it as active, and Instagram remains the best place to check changes, events and the day’s atmosphere.
How to experience it
I would go to try cachaças and experience informal Lapa. I would not choose it for elegance, a large dance floor or a structured show: its attraction is precisely its neighbourhood-bar and street atmosphere.
My Ernestinho tip
In this part of Lapa I carry only what I need and watch my phone, particularly late at night. Taste slowly: cachaça is not drunk like beer. For your return, request transport from a visible, busy spot.
I would make this one stop in a Lapa evening, not a reason to improvise a long walk after drinking. Ask about drink and service prices before ordering, have water and alternate with food. If you want to try cachaça, take it slowly and do not drive; arrange an identifiable ride home in advance, and keep an eye on your belongings while outside.
