Why I include it
The old trading house opened in 1907 as a dry-goods and grocery store, and Riotur presents it as one of Brazil’s oldest bars and a Rio Cultural Heritage site. Traditional samba circles remain one of its defining features.
How to experience it
For samba I would prioritise Friday, Saturday or Sunday, the music-circle days published by Riotur. This also shows why nightlife does not always need to start at midnight: some of the most characteristic Rio experiences begin in the afternoon.
My Ernestinho tip
I would arrive with time to spare and combine it with a daytime walk through Centro. If going specifically for the music circle, confirm with @armazem.senado because holidays and special events can change the programme.
To enjoy Armazém, I would check what music is scheduled that night and arrive with time to talk before the samba circle gets louder. Ask whether there is an entrance fee or per-person couvert and confirm how the bill works; terms can vary by event. When you leave, use an exact address for your ride and do not assume walking to another area is a good idea just because it looks close on a map.
