The wild beaches: prepare the walk first

I would not treat these as four beaches to tick off a list. This is a nature outing where the route, water you carry and return matter as much as the sand at the end.

01

Four names, different efforts

Perigoso, Meio, Funda and Inferno belong to the protected coast between Grumari and Barra de Guaratiba. Perigoso has its own page; the other three are covered here without duplicate routes. Continuing to later beaches increases the route and return commitment. There is no compulsory circuit or universal walking time. This suits prepared trail visitors rather than a car-to-table outing.

02

Trail or boat: neither is automatic

Riotur describes trail and boat access. For walking, confirm permitted access, route condition and local guidance; gradients, uneven surfaces and heat change the effort. If unfamiliar with the area, seek a qualified guide; no operator is advertised here. For boats, confirm sea conditions, equipment, landing and pick-up rather than treat a boat as guaranteed rescue from an unfinished walk.

03

Natural sand does not mean risk-free swimming

These ocean beaches need their own assessment of waves, currents, wind and storm swell. Sand changes with tides and sea; empty coves or permanently suitable bathing are not promised. Check official information for the exact point; a Grumari report does not certify every isolated beach. Lifeguard posts, surf schools and rentals are not guaranteed, and no flag does not mean low risk.

04

What I would carry without relying on vendors

This guide cannot guarantee kiosks, vendors, drinking water, toilets, showers, chairs or umbrellas. Carry water for both directions, food, sun protection, a hat, trail footwear, battery power and rubbish bags. Natural shade does not replace heat planning. Do not light fires or improvise a camping trip; check conservation-unit rules.

05

Children, mobility and 🐕: effort governs the choice

This is not my simple outing for babies, pushchairs or limited mobility. No barrier-free route, accessible toilet or rescue support is certified. With older children, assess actual group experience, heat, water and the ability to return; reaching the beach is only half the outing. 🐕 Municipal sand permission does not authorise conservation trails; do not bring a pet without specific confirmed permission.

06

Guaratiba is the base, not an instant return

Transport and parking are around the access area, not on these sands. Arrange pick-up and a backup before walking; drivers, continuous phone signal and parking are not guaranteed. Share the plan and keep the group together. Leave daylight margin and change plans for storms or wet access. Avoid dark sunrise arrivals or staying for sunset at the expense of the return.

07

One fewer beach can be better

Perigoso may be the only beach of the day if it fits the group’s ability and conditions. Meio, Funda and Inferno are not compulsory stages to prove you visited the wild beaches. If the route does not work, Guaratiba offers a scenery-and-food alternative with facilities to check. Do not add Telégrafo after a demanding walk just because it is nearby.
