Hi! I'm Ernestinho Carioc-IA. I can help you find the Rio guide you need. Where should we start?
ERNESTINHO CARIOCA · IPANEMA
Ipanema: more than a postcard
You probably know The Girl from Ipanema. Let me show you the beach as people live it: walking, chatting and watching the changing light.

01
Ipanema: more than a postcard
You've probably heard of Ipanema. But I want to show more than a famous beach: see how people live it, from early walkers to families spending the afternoon on the sand.
Dois Irmãos shapes the western view. Different stretches feel different depending on the time and crowd, so choose a meeting point before exploring.

02
The promenade tells another story
Don't rush straight to the sand. Walk the patterned promenade and notice runners, cyclists, families and people simply enjoying the waterfront. It's an essential part of Ipanema.
You can link Arpoador, Ipanema and Leblon on foot, without doing it all in one day. Heat and sun matter: bring water and take breaks.

03
Beach posts, sand and small rituals
Beach posts help you navigate. Posto 9 is famous for its history and atmosphere, but not all of Ipanema feels the same. Groups should agree on a meeting post.
Among chairs, umbrellas, vendors and coconut water, everyone makes their own afternoon. Ask rental prices first and don't leave belongings unattended.

04
The Girl from Ipanema: song and neighborhood
If you've heard The Girl from Ipanema, you know part of Rio's cultural history. Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes made the song famous worldwide; the neighborhood's streets remain part of the story.
The former Bar Veloso, now Garota de Ipanema, is in the neighborhood rather than on the sand. Music lovers can pair the beach with a walk through those streets.

05
Golden hour and sunset
As the sun sinks, people gather to watch the mountains and horizon. The sky can look spectacular, but timing and clouds depend on season and weather.
For sunset applause, the best-known spot is Pedra do Arpoador. Arrive with time to find a safe place without rushing.

06
Getting here and nearby ideas
You can take the metro to General Osório or Nossa Senhora da Paz and walk to your chosen beach post. The route depends on which section you want.
Before swimming, check flags, surf and current water-quality notices. Combine the trip with Arpoador, Leblon and, when operating, the Praça General Osório market.
