Paragliding flight from Niterói

A lookout and a launch ramp above the bay

Parque da Cidade sits high on Morro da Viração, with lookouts over Niterói, Guanabara Bay, and Rio. Municipal tourism information notes two free-flight launch ramps. The exact takeoff point and ramp are decided according to the day's conditions and the operator.

The park is on Estrada da Viração in São Francisco. Visit Niterói lists visiting hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and notes that buses do not run on the winding access road; it lists car or van access. Check current hours and entry rules before arranging your trip.

Wind determines the schedule

A tandem flight depends on wind, visibility, and the pilot's assessment. A booking does not guarantee takeoff at an exact time: the operator may wait, reschedule, or cancel for safety. Leave room in your itinerary and avoid pairing it with a connection, tour, or commitment you cannot move.

Before confirming, ask how suitable conditions are assessed, how much time to set aside, and the policy for changes, cancellations, and weather-related refunds. Also confirm the meeting point and how you will be notified if plans change.

Questions to settle with the operator

• Who will be the pilot and which operator will run the flight? Ask for their details and contact channels.
• What age, weight, or fitness limits apply, and what information should you share before booking?
• What the quoted price includes: flight, transport, photos or video, insurance, and any extra fees.
• What clothing and footwear to wear, where to store personal belongings, and whether loose cameras are allowed.
• What happens if weather prevents takeoff, you arrive late, or need to change the date.

Do not rely on prices or terms published by another company: each operator defines its own service. Confirm these points with the company that will actually run your flight.

Preparing for the day

Plan your trip to the park and confirm the road route, exact meeting point, and latest arrival time. Wear closed shoes and comfortable clothes; bring sun protection and water for the wait. Keep your hands free and follow the team's instructions about flight equipment and your belongings.

If you also want to visit the lookouts, check how much time remains within park hours. If the ramp is closed or flights pause, enjoy only areas open to visitors and follow staff instructions.
