What you will find
Biblioteca Nacional preserves one of Latin America’s most important bibliographic collections. Its monumental headquarters faces Cinelândia in Centro’s cultural corridor.
The visit lets you discover historic halls, monumental staircases, stained glass and some of the preservation work on books, newspapers, photographs, maps and rare documents.
History
The collection’s origins are linked to the Portuguese court’s arrival in Brazil in 1808. Thousands of books, documents, maps, engravings and manuscripts from Portugal’s Royal Library were moved to Rio de Janeiro.
What makes this place special
