Port Zone and downtown Rio route
A self-guided route connecting seven unforgettable places. Follow it in full or split it over two days to explore each attraction at your own pace.

AquaRio
Start by the sea at one of the Port Zone's major family attractions. Its huge tanks, tunnels and marine life let you begin the day at an easy pace before continuing on foot along Boulevard Olímpico.

Yup Star Rio
The observation wheel has become one of Porto Maravilha's most recognizable sights. If you ride it, you get a different perspective on the port area and Guanabara Bay; otherwise, it is still worth stopping to see and photograph it.

Mural Etnias
Continue along Boulevard Olímpico to Eduardo Kobra's monumental artwork. Its huge portraits and colors tell a story of cultural diversity and have turned this part of the old port into an open-air gallery.

Museu do Amanhã
Reaching Praça Mauá and seeing Museu do Amanhã is one of the route's most beautiful moments. You can admire its architecture from outside or allow time for its exhibitions on science, society, sustainability and possible futures.

Mosteiro de São Bento
From the port area, we move into colonial history. Sober on the outside, it surprises inside with one of Rio's most impressive gilded Baroque ensembles. Enter calmly and remember that it remains a religious space.

Confeitaria Colombo
In the heart of downtown, pause at this Rio institution founded in 1894. Its mirrors, stained glass, woodwork and historic hall are part of the experience. Stop in to look around, have coffee or treat yourself before the final stop.

Real Gabinete Português de Leitura
Finish at one of downtown's architectural gems. The shelves rise several stories and surround the reading room with a unique atmosphere. When you enter, do not just look at the books: look up and take in all the details.
How to get there ↗The Port Zone and downtown are easier to enjoy in a short sequence with visits confirmed. I would choose the museum or historic site you most want to see, check that it is open and add a nearby walk; you do not need to cross all of downtown to make a route feel complete. In heat, rain or on event days, shorten the walk and identify your return transport before leaving the final stop.
