What to do each day of the week
Seven morning, afternoon and evening plans so you do not arrive in Rio wondering what will be open.
1MONDAY · Start with Christ the Redeemer or Sugarloaf Mountain in the morning. Have lunch in Copacabana, visit Forte de Copacabana and Arpoador in the afternoon, and confirm a samba gathering at Pedra do Sal for the evening. Many museums close: check first.
2TUESDAY · Spend the morning in the historic center: Real Gabinete, Colombo, CCBB and Praça XV. Head to Santa Teresa in the afternoon and finish around Selarón and Lapa, always checking the evening schedule.
3WEDNESDAY · A South Zone day: Jardim Botânico and Parque Lage early, lunch in Botafogo and the beach in Ipanema. Finish with sunset at Arpoador and dinner or a bar in Ipanema.
4THURSDAY · Explore Urca: Praia Vermelha, Pista Cláudio Coutinho and lunch in the neighborhood. Go up Sugarloaf Mountain for golden hour, then enjoy Mureta da Urca.
5FRIDAY · Book an excursion to Petrópolis, Niterói or an adventure experience. On your return, choose samba, pagode, Botafogo bars or Lapa nightlife according to the schedule.
6SATURDAY · Ideal for Búzios, Arraial, Angra, Ilha Grande or a Full Day Rio tour. If you stay in the city, combine Feira de São Cristóvão, Maracanã and an evening with music.
7SUNDAY · Walk or cycle along waterfronts with recreational lanes, visit Feira da Glória in the morning, have lunch near the beach and finish in Ipanema, Urca or Parque da Cidade. Confirm Sunday opening hours.
Before scheduling a museum, market, match or show on a particular day, check its official calendar: weekly closures, holidays and special programming can change your plan. I would organize the time-specific activity first, then fill the day with nearby places where you can come and go flexibly. That helps you avoid a long, costly ride to a closed door or arriving late for a booking.
