⭐ Ernestinho’s tip
I would make this visit part of the day rather than an isolated stop: shopping, a break for food and then more exploring nearby.

Ernestinho Carioca guide · North Zone
Outlets, food and Rio life in Del Castilho
My host’s view
Let me say this from the start: Nova América is not only a place to shop. In Del Castilho, it mixes everyday North Zone life with a practical visit for food, stores, outlets or a rainy day indoors without crossing the entire city.

Main story
When I think of Shopping Nova América, I think of a Rio that does not always appear on the visitor’s first postcard. It is not Copacabana or Ipanema, and it does not try to be. It sits in Del Castilho, in the North Zone, where transport, commerce and everyday carioca life matter.
What I notice first is practicality: Nova América/Del Castilho MetrôRio station connects directly to the mall. From Copacabana, Ipanema, Flamengo or downtown, that makes it possible to see another side of the city without a complicated travel plan.
Nova América is large enough for several hours. You can come for stores, cinema, food or a promotion, but I also like the chance to see a more everyday North Zone. I would choose what to look for, save time for the outlets and leave room for a meal.
For value, I especially recommend Nike, Puma and Adidas. I check stock and compare models, but I never promise a result: outlet inventory changes constantly. Finding your size is a win; not finding it is part of the reality.
With children, rain or a break from the beach, the mall can save the day. There is food, cinema, shared space and a comfortable structure. Events and children’s programming change, so check the calendar.
I do not want to sell an illusion: Nova América is not a Sugarloaf viewpoint or a historic walk. Its appeal is the metro connection, the mix of residents and visitors, useful shopping and ordinary carioca life.
As a host, I would include it when a traveler wants a less obvious and more functional Rio. Arrive with a plan, confirm hours and stores, and think about the return. When a mall lowers the stress of the day, it has done its job very well.

The place
To me, Nova América is a doorway into a side of Rio many visitors miss. It sits in Del Castilho, in the North Zone, with direct MetrôRio access: Nova América/Del Castilho station brings you almost to the entrance. That makes the visit simple for shopping, food, deals or a break.
Shop with a plan
I would start with what I actually need and then browse slowly. Expect fashion, shoes, beauty, fragrance, technology, home, sports, children’s items, toys, gifts, books and services. The directory can change, so check the official website before leaving.

Ernestinho recommends
If you want sportswear and price comparisons, I would save time for Nike, Puma and Adidas. Outlet stock is never guaranteed: sizes, colors and promotions change. But the right mix of stock and discount can make the visit worthwhile.

A carioca pause
Nova América is also a meeting place. You can grab a quick bite, use the food court or choose a family restaurant. Rua do Rio feels different from a conventional enclosed mall. There are budget, mid-range and more complete choices; check the current directory.
Rua do Rio, gastronomía y encuentro.
For families
With children, the mall lets you combine shopping, food, cinema, events and rest. Some activities are temporary, so check the schedule. I value that flexibility on rainy days.
Cine, eventos y una pausa bajo techo.
Practical plan
From Copacabana, Ipanema, Flamengo or downtown, I would prioritize MetrôRio: Line 2 reaches Nova América/Del Castilho with direct access. From the West Zone or with heavy bags, Uber, 99, taxi or car are more comfortable, but traffic changes everything. Check bus directions in Google Maps or Moovit.
MetrôRio Line 2, Nova América/Del Castilho station, with direct access. Parking is available. From Santos Dumont or Galeão, allow for traffic. For families or large shopping bags, I prefer door-to-door transport; for saving money, the metro is usually best.
The complex lists parking, metro access, customer service and visitor comfort resources. Wi‑Fi, accessibility, elevators and specific services may depend on availability: confirm at customer service. Lockers and ATMs are not presented as confirmed.

⭐ Consejo de Ernestinho · Nova América
Nova América has two major advantages in my view: direct access from Nova América/Del Castilho station and the chance to combine shopping with Rua do Rio, dining and services. The complex preserves part of the old factory’s identity and serves as a major hub in the North Zone.
Servicios útiles: stroller and wheelchair loans, a family area, Correios, ATMs, bicycle parking, Wi-Fi and 24-hour parking. The complex also includes hotels. Confirm conditions and availability on the day of your visit.
Who it is for: travelers in Zona Norte, families, anyone wanting easy metro access or to take care of several things in one place.
Combine it with: a day in the North Zone. If you plan to stay later, I’d check the schedule and Rua do Rio before heading out.
