Airports and getting to Búzios

Your arrival ends at your accommodation door: compare flights, transfer, connection time and the final leg before buying.

Choose by intent, not from an endless list

Do not choose only the airport that looks closest on a map. Compare the whole itinerary, actual arrival time, luggage and final transfer.

01

Which airport should you choose?

Your flight changes the departure point and how much time you need to connect.

Galeão (GIG)

Rio’s main international airport. To reach Búzios, compare a direct transfer with the trip to the bus station plus a bus ticket. If arriving overnight, confirm the meeting point, waiting terms and contact in writing before boarding.

Santos Dumont (SDU)

It is in central Rio. Allow time to leave the airport and reach your actual connection point; traffic, time of day and bags affect the plan. Do not automatically apply a fare quoted for GIG.

Cabo Frio (CFB)

It can work when a regional flight matches your date. Confirm the flight and baggage with the airline, then arrange the onward journey to Búzios in advance. Availability can vary by season.

Umberto Modiano Aerodrome (BZC)

Do not confuse the local aerodrome with a scheduled commercial route. For a private flight, ask for the operator, aircraft registration, time and exact arrival point; that differs from a regular airline ticket.

02

Ways to complete the journey

Compare the total cost and leave enough time between each leg.

1001 bus

1001 sells tickets to Búzios and lists the destination terminal. Fare, times, seat and availability depend on the date: use its official booking flow. Arrive with the company’s recommended buffer and verify the terminal shown on your ticket.

Shared transfer

It may reduce the per-person cost, but the operator sets departure times, waiting and luggage terms. Check how delays are handled, how many stops there are and the final address.

Details needed to book

To request a booking, send the airport, date, arrival time and flight number, passenger and bag counts, and full address. An enquiry is not a confirmation: wait for the fare, meeting point, luggage terms and conditions before paying.

03

Getting from each airport without losing your connection

Landing in Rio is not the end of the journey: you still need to leave the terminal, find the correct pickup and reach your accommodation in Búzios. Compare the whole journey, not just flight time.

Galeão (GIG): direct service and alternatives

Galeão lists an Auto Viação 1001 connection to Búzios from Terminal 2 arrivals. Times and availability vary; verify with the operator and on your ticket. Follow signs and confirm the pickup point. If it does not match your flight, compare a confirmed private transfer or travel to a Rio bus terminal. Allow time for immigration, luggage and delays.

Santos Dumont (SDU): first reach your departure point

SDU is within Rio, but it is not the departure terminal for every Búzios bus. Check your ticket: you may need to travel to Novo Rio bus station or another point named by the operator. Traffic and rush hour add time. Leave a wide buffer between separately booked legs and include the city transfer in your total cost.

Cabo Frio (CFB): the regional airport

When a suitable commercial flight is available, Cabo Frio may bring you closer to the Região dos Lagos. You still need ground transport to Búzios: confirm transfer, pickup and return time. Do not assume a public bus is timed to every landing. Price a car or transfer before buying your flight, and confirm charter or international-flight arrangements with the airport and airline.

Umberto Modiano Aerodrome (BZC)

Búzios aerodrome is not necessarily a scheduled alternative to GIG, SDU or CFB; availability depends on the operation, aircraft and authorisation. If your booking says BZC, confirm address, baggage, onward transport, timing and ground contact with the operator.

04

Choose bus, transfer or car by total cost

Compare passenger count, flight time, accommodation area and luggage. The cheapest first leg may require an extra taxi, a long wait or a night in Rio.

Buy the bus only after checking the connection

Search your exact date on 1001’s official channel and check whether the origin is Galeão, Novo Rio, Cabo Frio or another station. Fares vary. Check baggage, changes, refunds, ID and arrival buffer. Save the ticket offline. Separately purchased connections may not be protected if a flight is delayed.

Shared transfers require schedule coordination

Ask about departure times, luggage, stops and exact drop-off. Some services may leave you in a central point rather than at your pousada. Confirm final fare, payment, flight-delay policy and waiting time. For night arrivals or children, agree on a safe meeting point and how to identify the driver.

Book a transfer from Galeão

The table below lists published private-transfer fares from GIG to the Região dos Lagos/Búzios and a direct booking contact. On WhatsApp, include flight number, date, arrival time, passenger and bag counts, full address, and any child seat or mobility equipment. Rentcars banner to compare rental cars

A car may suit a multi-area stay

If you plan to visit farther beaches, carry bulky luggage or travel at different times, compare multi-day rental with the transfers you would actually take. Include fuel, parking, insurance, excess, deposit and airport transfer. It may be easier not to drive in Rio and pick up in Cabo Frio or Búzios; compare options and confirm return location.
